Trial on Politkovskaya's murder case postponed till October 1
The Moscow City Court has postponed till October 1 the trial in the case of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, an observer of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", since one of the defendants was not brought to the trial.
"The court has received a document from the SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 5, where defendant Sergey Khadjikurbanov is kept. It reports about quarantine introduced for indefinite term at the penitentiary institution because of infectious disease," Judge Pavel Melekhin has read out the document.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who wrote about Chechnya and Northern Caucasus, was killed on October 7, 2006. The prisoners' dock contains five persons: Lom-Ali Gaitukaev, a Chechen businessman, treated by investigators as an organizer of the crime, his nephews Djabrail, Ibragim and Rustam Makhmudov, and ex-militiaman Sergey Khadjikurbanov.
At present, public prosecutors present to the court the evidence against the defendants. The defendants plead not guilty.
