Baku Mayoralty has sanctioned a rally of oppositional presidential candidate Gasanli for September 28
On September 28 in Baku, the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan will hold an election rally in support of Jamil Gasanli, its presidential candidate and History Professor at the Baku State University.
Oktay Gyulalyev, the head of the press centre of the NCDF's electoral office, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the rally will take place at the stadium of the sports complex located in the Yasamal District of Baku.
The organizers hope that the rally will be attended by 10,000 people. Asef Guliev, the head of the rally committee of the NCDF, said that they plan to attract more people than the previous event that took place on September 22.
"The September 22 rally of the NCDF in support of Jamil Gasanli was a success. By its format, content and emotional upheaval, it was quite different from all the previous rallies. However, our expectations as to the number of participants were not fully met. Given its election character, one would expect higher activeness, but still, the Sunday's demonstration was the largest after the 2005 parliamentary elections. Most importantly, the rally showed a rising trend of civil involvement, indicating people's support of Jamil Gasanli and the NCDF," Asef Guliev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
However, he also noted that "the authorities obstructed the citizens who were on their way to the rally."
