Sochi authorities report three victims of hurricane and elimination of its consequences
Sochi has liquidated the main consequences of the hurricane that hit the city on September 25; however, some streets are still being cleaned, said Anatoly Pakhomov, the Mayor, and added that three persons suffered during the calamity.
The bad weather in Sochi on September 24-25 became a kind of a test for the organizers of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games and showed that the city is ready to host the games, said Jean-Claude Killy, the chairman of the Coordination Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Let us remind you that on September 24 in Sochi residents of 59 houses had to leave them because the Loo River overflew the banks after heavy rains. Water flooded federal highways; and several mudslides were registered.
In the evening on September 25 strong winds were fixed in Sochi, which damaged power lines, felled trees, and tore off the roofs of the maternity hospital and seven other buildings. Six settlements were attacked by the adverse natural phenomenon, namely: Dagomys, Loo, Lazarevsky, Khosta and Adler.
During the night the city managed to completely clear the street network, remove more than 100 fallen trees that blocked 30 streets; and by 8 in the morning the city was already working in the normal mode, said Anatoly Pakhomov.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that many Sochi residents believe that the emergency situation in the city due to bad weather was caused by lack of control over the construction sites and the fact that during the erection of Olympic facilities they destroyed the drainage system.
