Khaindrava: Saakashvili's speech at UN is a proper respond to events on Georgian-South-Ossetian border
When speaking at the United Nations, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has expressed the opinion of the majority of the country's political forces. This was stated by Georgian political analysts questioned by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to the opinion of Ivlian Khaindrava, an expert of the International Republican Institute, the Mikhail Saakashvili's speech represents the proper response to pulling of barbed wire on the border between Georgia and South Ossetia. Kakha Kakhishvili, the leader of the Centre for Political Technologies, believes that at the UN, Mikhail Saakashvili has announced his political testament.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 26, during the speech presented by Mikhail Saakashvili, the Russian delegation left the hall of the UN General Assembly in disagreement with his anti-Russian rhetoric. Even prior to his speech, Mikhail Saakashvili accused Russia of the seizure of new territories in the area bordering with South Ossetia.
Let us remind you that on September 17, near the Georgian village of Ditsi, a conflict occurred between local residents and Russian border guards. According to the Georgian side's version, earlier, the Russian border guards have deepened the border by about 300 meters to the direction of the Shida Kartli region. According to the local residents' story, the barbed wire, installed by the border guards, will pass right through the territory of the village.
"The question of barbed wire shows that Russia is not actually ready for a dialogue with Georgia, though the policy and rhetoric have changed," said Kakha Kakhishvili, the leader of the Centre for Political Technologies.
Gela Vasadze, a political analyst, a co-founder of NGO "Free Zone", believes that in his speech, Mikhail Saakashvili has updated the questions that he was to actualize in the early years of his reign. However, the political analyst has emphasized that the entire Georgian society and himself had the same illusions about Russia.
When asked to comment on the behaviour of the Russian delegation, Gela Vasadze has noted that it was quite logical. "I can say only one thing concerning the reaction of the Russian side the truth hurts," he has stated.
