Azerbaijani court sentences editor-in-chief of "Tolyshi Sado" to five years in prison
In Azerbaijan, the court found Hilal Mamedov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Tolyshi Sado" (Voice of Talysh), guilty on charges of treason, inciting ethnic hatred and drug possession and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 21, 2012, Hilal Mamedov was detained in Baku. The defendant denied all charges and claimed the political nature of the case.
The court has found Hilal Mamedov guilty on all three charges. The audience at the courtroom took the verdict with cries of indignation and curses to the court. Hilal Mamedov himself has said that "justice will prevail", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
Let us remind you that in the course of debates, prosecutor asked the court to sentence Hilal Mamedov to six years of imprisonment and the defendant's advocates asked for acquittal.
