Volgograd: parents of disabled children stop their hunger strike
The parents of disabled children have stopped their hunger strike in Volgograd, having received promises of the officials of the All-Russian Popular Front (ARPF) to satisfy their demands, as the former hunger-strikers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 12 a total of 38 mothers of children with disabilities began their alternate or the so-called "fan-like" hunger strike demanding to open a rehabilitation centre in the region.
As reported by Ekaterina Romashkina, the above meeting with the officials was attended by 35 mothers who participated in the hunger strike. "The ARPF has promised to satisfy all our demands. The main thing is that a rehabilitation centre will be built. In was announced that some section thereof will operate already in January-February 2014," she said.
Meanwhile, another protest – a hunger strike of parents of many children – continues in Volgograd. Let us remind you that 12 parents of many children of Volgograd went on hunger strike on September 23. Currently, there are nine hunger-strikers. They demand to solve their social problems and are hunger-striking for the eighth day.
"We were not interesting for the ARPF," said Nikolai Shamaev, one of the protesters. "They didn't invite us to the meeting. The moms who are hunger-striking in the 'fan-like' manner are important, but the parents who haven't eaten for eight days aren't interesting. We are happy that at least some federal media have covered the action today."
