AI: Olympic Torch Relay will shed light on human rights violations in Russia
The international human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) is launching a worldwide campaign of highlight the situation with human rights violations in Russia. Actions and protests around the world will start on October 7 – the day of arrival of the Olympic Flame to Moscow, the AI has reported.
"The Olympic Flame may shed light on human rights violations, which the authorities would like to hide behind the festive decorations. It is important that all who are involved in the Games in this or that way be aware of the restrictions that the Russian authorities have imposed on civil society and ordinary citizens, and use their influence to oppose this state of affairs," said Sergey Nikitin, the head of the AI's Russian representative office, who is quoted by the AI's website.
AI activists are preparing performances, flash mobs and pickets, including in front of Russian missions abroad.
