Chechnya's Prosecutor's Office takes control over inquiry into disappearance of a girl in hijab

The investigation into the disappearance in December 2012 inGrozny of a 23-year-old local resident was conducted with serious violations. This was concluded by the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya after a respective check. Further inquiry will be carried out under the supervision of the Office, said a source from there.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Aina Khabibulaeva, 23, a resident of Grozny, a post-graduate student at the Institute of State and Law under the Chechen State University, went missing under unclear circumstances on December 11, 2012, in Grozny. According to her relatives, Khabibulaeva was forcibly taken away from the campus by unknown persons in military uniform. On the day of abduction she was dressed in Muslim clothes and wore a hijab.

In 2012, Chechnya saw several incidents with girls wearing hijabs. This, on November 8, 2012, inGrozny, a young girl dressed in Muslim clothing was abducted. Eyewitnesses reported then that power agents were the kidnappers. The abducted girl was a student at one of Grozny higher schools; she was later released.
