KChR police confiscate Koran translations, although court decision has not come into force, lawyer says
As reported on October 3 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), copies of the book with the translation of the sense of the Koran, which was found to be extremist by the Novorossiysk court, were confiscated by the police from two outlets in the marketplace of the city of Cherkessk. Administrative protocols were drawn up against the traders.
According to the lawyer Ravil Tugushev, the court ruling has been appealed against and has not yet entered into force; therefore confiscation of the books is illegal.
"I lodged an appeal complaint on the court ruling on September 23. It arrived in the court on October 1; and the court has five days for making its resolution thereon," Ravil Tugushev, the chairman of the board of the public organization "Centre for Legal Support of Population", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The law enforcers should wait until the second judicial instance upholds the decision of the Oktiabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk; and only then it will come into force, said Ravil Tugushev. "Therefore, now, the confiscations of the books with Koran translation are illegal," he concluded.
