Memorial plaque to Anna Politkovskaya opened in Moscow
Moscow has hosted the solemn opening of Russia's first memorial to the murdered journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta" Anna Politkovskaya. As stated by Anna Stavitskaya, the advocate of Anna's children, the murder is not yet fully solved.
The memorial plaque is mounted to the building, housing the editorial board in Potapov Lane and represents the notepad sheets made of bronze. The upper part beats a portrait of the journalist and the text: "The observer of the 'Novaya Gazeta' Anna Politkovskaya worked in this building in 1999-2006 before her tragic death".
The event was attended by Anna Politkovskaya's children, Ilya and Vera, leaders of the "Novaya Gazeta", people of culture and arts, Anna Politkovskaya's friends, workers of the Russian and foreign press, members of human rights and public organizations, and people who knew the journalist by her publications.
Let us remind you that at the trial of Politkovskaya's murder the prisoner's dock keeps five people: the Chechen businessman Lom-Ali Gaitukaev, believed to be the organizer of the crime; his nephews Djabrail, Ibragim and Rustam Makhmudov and a former police officer Sergey Khadjikurbanov. The defendants refuse to plead guilty.
The staff of the "Novaya Gazeta" continues its own investigation and is not going to stop it until the customers of the crime are all known, said Nadezhda Prusenkova, the head of the press service of the edition.
