ECtHR accepts lawsuit of Gyumri-based GALA TV Company against Armenia
The claim of the GALA lodged to the European Court of Human Rights ( ECtHR) against the Republic of Armenia is already within the jurisdiction of the Court. In the near future, the so-called stage of discussing the claim will start. This was reported to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Armenuhi Vardanyan, the editor-in-chief of the Internet edition "Galatv".
Ms Vardanyan has also noted that the claim of the TV Company, which was filed back in 2009, is supported by a large number of materials, including both numerous petitions moved during the trials and facts of tax pressure on the GALA and persecutions by various government agencies.
Let us remind you that oppressions of the GALA were launched on October 26, 2007. On March 19, 2009, the Administrative Court of Gyumri ruled on the lawsuit by the city tax inspection against the GALA. According to the court, the TV Company had to pay a fine to the tax authorities in the amount of 26,899,986 drams, or 90,000 US dollars.
The broadcaster appealed to the public and managed to raise the required amount of money. In April 2009, the court granted the lawsuit of the Gyumri city administration, under which the TV Company is obliged to remove its equipment from the old TV tower, which is owned by the city Mayoralty.
