Prosecutors artificially drag on trial in case against ex-Ministry of Defence of Georgia, advocates assert
The consideration of the case against Bacho Akhalaya, ex-Minister of Defence of Georgia, who is accused of the brutal suppression of a prison riot, is unreasonably delayed, including by self-disqualification of prosecutor. This was stated by the defendant's advocate David Dekanoidze and the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that during the final court session held on October 7, Prosecutor Iya Dardjaniya stated that she could not remain objective during the trial. According to Iya Dardjaniya's words, she and Ani Nadareishvili, the defendant's wife, have a large circle of friends in common, who put pressure on her.
Prosecutor Levan Adeishvili was appointed to be a new prosecutor in the case against Bacho Akhalaya.
Today, the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association has made a statement that the trial is being artificially protracted by means of unmotivated self-qualifications of prosecutors.
According to the statement, Prosecutor Revaz Nadom has failed to sufficiently substantiate the reason for his self-disqualification, and Iya Dardjaniya knew in advance that she had many friends in common with the defendant's wife and that the advocates involved in the trial were amicably disposed to her, the "News-Georgia" reports.
