Georgia: political analysts treat Margvelashvili, Bakradze and Burjanadze as main candidates for presidency
In Georgia, at the presidential election, three candidates Georgy Margvelashvili, David Bakradze, and Nino Burjanadze occupy leading positions out of all 23 presidential candidates registered by the Central Election Commission (CEC). The majority of candidates have no chance of winning. This was concluded by Georgian political analysts questioned by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Let us remind you that election of the President of Georgia will be held on October 27. In total, 54 persons expressed their desire to take part at the election. 23 candidates will run for presidency.
At the presidential election, the main battle develops between three candidates Georgy Margvelashvili, a candidate of the ruling coalition "Georgian Dream", ex-Minister of Education and Science, David Bakradze, a candidate of the pro-presidential "United National Movement" Party, ex-Speaker of the Parliament, and Nino Burjanadze, the leader of the "Democratic Movement-United Georgia" Party, ex-Speaker of the Parliament. This was stated by Tornike Sharashenidze, an expert on international politics, Professor from the Georgian Institute of Public Administration.
According to his report, it will be possible to determine the preferences of the people by considering who of the presidential candidates takes the second place at the election. "If it goes to Nino Burjanadze, then it will be clear that the people stand for the development of the Georgian-Russian dialogue," the political analyst believes.
Nikoloz Chitadze, the leader of the "Centre of International Security Studies", believes that the increased number of presidential candidates is not connected with the increase of the level of democracy in the country.
