Dagestani residents complain about unlawful detentions in Khasavyurt District
Residents of the village of Mutsalaul of the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan have appealed to the Dagestani Regional Public Organization (DRPO) "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy) with complaints about the facts of unlawful detentions and torture of their relatives suspected of aiding and abetting militants. Officials from the Khasavyurt ROVD (District Interior Division) have confirmed the facts of detentions; however, they have reported that the both cases are under investigation and the results of the investigation will be announced later.
In the first complaints filed by Bagazhat Akhmedova, a resident of the village of Mutsalaul, the woman states that her son Omaraskhab Akhmedov is suspected of involvement in illegal armed formations (IAFs), while, according to the woman's statement, he is not guilty.
In her complaint, Bagazhat Akhmedova states that Omaraskhab Akhmedov was tortured with electric current and is now under two-month arrest.
On October 9, one more complaint was filed by Magomedkhabib Akhmedov, a resident of the village of Mutsalaul, who complained about unlawful detention of his nephew Ibragim Magomedomarovich Askhabaliev, born in 1982.
Meanwhile, the "Caucasian Knot" got comments from a source at the Khasavyurt ROVD. The source has said that the detainees are suspected of involvement in subversive and terrorist grouping "Khasavyurt".
