Dagestani Prosecutor's Office accuses weekly "Chernovik" of publishing extremist material
The Office has sued the weekly edition "Chernovik" for the article by Umar Gadjialiev "Here and Now. Sham", published in No. 23 on June 21, 2013, which was treated as extremist material.
The Prosecutor's Office made its conclusion based on the opinion of the republic's Ministry of Justice. A court hearing of the case will begin on October 17 at the Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala, the website of the "Chernovik" reports.
Earlier, the article was criticized by the head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov, saying that his words had been misinterpreted. "The 'Chernovik' wrote that, allegedly, Abdulatipov had said that everyone should be drowned in the river. It had been said, but not that and not in that way. These publications mean direct threats against the leader of the republic," said Abdulatipov.
In his opinion, for such publications the newspaper should be warned, and if it fails to react to warnings – it should be closed, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2008 two criminal cases were opened against four journalists and then editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" Nadira Isaeva. Those claims against the weekly included the quoting in the article "Terrorist No. 1" published on July 4, 2008, of statements made by one of militants' leaders Rappani Khalilov.
