Editor-in-chief of "Chernovik": lawsuit of Dagestani prosecutors against the weekly is an attempt of pressure

The demand of the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan to treat an article published in the local weekly "Chernovik" as an extremist material is an attempt to exert pressure on the independent weekly, said Magdi Kamalov, the editor-in-chief.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Office discovered signs of extremism in the article by Umar Gadjialiev "Here and Now. Sham", published in "Chernovik" on June 21.

To reinforce the arguments, the Prosecutor's Office had asked the Republic's Centre for Forensic Examination (RCFE) of the Dagestani Ministry of Justice to hold a psycho-linguistic study of the article and then, based on the conclusion of the Centre, went to court, said Magdi Kamalov.

The first hearing is scheduled for October 17. The editor-in-chief is sure that the above lawsuit is just a new attempt to press the weekly, while the conclusions of the RCFE are quite doubtful, since the Centre, according to Kamalov, has no right to make linguistic studies.
