In Stavropol, defendant in case of seizure of hostages in Budyonnovsk sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment
The Court of the Stavropol Territory has sentenced Mouldy Khabaev to 14 years of imprisonment in the case of the attack on Budyonnovsk in 1995. Advocates of Mouldy Khabaev intend to challenge the verdict.
Let us remind you that on June 14, 1995, a group of militants led by Shamil Basaev attacked citizens and organizations in Budyonnovsk and seized the central hospital of the city. As a result of the terror act, 129 persons were killed.
In this November, the case against Mouldy Khabaev was sent to the court. According to investigators, Mouldy Khabaev had voluntarily joined the grouping led by Shamil Basaev and "took an active part in the commission of serious and very serious crimes." Mouldy Khabaev was accused of banditry, committing the terror act, and seizure of hostages. Besides, he is also charged of the fact that after the attack on Budyonnovsk, Mouldy Khabaev illegally obtained a passport and a foreign passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation under a false name and repeatedly went out of the Russian Federation. During the court session, held on December 5, 2012, Mouldy Khabaev stated that he admitted his guilt only in part of the use of the knowingly forged document.
