Russian SC upholds verdict to five Chechen residents on charges of preparing terror act and attack on law enforcers
The verdict against five persons of the Grozny District of Chechnya, who were accused of trying to undermine the train set of cars with petroleum products and who were sentenced in this June by the Chechen court to long terms of imprisonment, has been upheld by the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the law enforcement bodies of Chechnya.
Let us remind you that on June 17, the Supreme Court of Chechnya sentenced Salman and Yusup Tepishev brothers, Islam Zubaev, Magomed Khamzaev, and Arthur Sakkaev.
"The defence of the convicted militants has challenged this decision at the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation; however, their complaints have been unsuccessful, and the sentence was upheld," the "Caucasian Knot" was told today by an official from the Supreme Court of Chechnya.
An advocate of one of the defendants has stated that in the course of investigation, his client and the other defendants were abused and tortured, including with electric current. "The testimony of my client, like the testimonies of the other defendants, was 'knocked out' by means of physical force. This was claimed by the defendants during the trial. However, the Supreme Court of Chechnya and the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation did not take that into account," said the lawyer, who preferred to remain anonymous.
