Azerbaijan: NCDF postpones protest against election results to October 27

The oppositional National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) has rescheduled the rally earlier planned for October 20 in Baku with a demand to cancel the outcome of the recent presidential election and appointment of a new election for October 27. The reason was in the fact that the Executive Power of Baku has failed to respond to the notification of the organizers of the rally.

Zaur Ramazanov, the head of the department of public and political life of the Executive Power of Baku, has told reporters today that the city administration had not received any applications about the rally on October 20.

In his turn, Gyulaga Aslanly, an authorized representative of Jamil Gasanli, the former presidential candidate from the NCDF, said that an official notification letter about the rally on October 20 was sent on October 14 to the Mayoralty from the post office of the Binagadi District of Baku.

"If a letter sent from one district of Baku fails to reach the city centre in four days, then, what high rates of Azerbaijan's progress are we talking about," Mr Aslanly has ironically remarked.

He has treated the explanation of the official just as a pretext for not sanctioning the October 20 rally.
