Picket in support of oppositional leader Alexei Navalny held in Volgograd
On October 18, eight persons took part in a picket organized by the regional office of the "People's Alliance" Party in support of the oppositional leader Alexei Navalny.
On July 18, Mr Navalny, known for his active fight against corruption in state procurements, including in the regions of Northern Caucasus, was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of embezzlement of state-owned property of the "Kirovles" State Company. On October 16, the Kirov Regional Court changed his sentence from real to conditional.
The picketers, who came to the building of the Russia's Central Bank Department for the Volgograd Region held posters in support of "May 6" prisoners and Navalny, as Dmitry Kostikov, an activist of the regional branch of the above party, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"We disagree with this conventional punishment awarded to an innocent person," said Kostikov.
