Azerbaijani SC dismisses Djamil Gasanli's complaint against outcome of presidential election
The Azerbaijani Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the complaint filed by Djamil Gasanli, ex-presidential candidate of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), against the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) concerning the official results of the voting on the presidential election.
On October 17, the Azerbaijani CEC approved the final report on the results of the presidential election held on October 9, according to which, incumbent President Ilham Aliev was elected the country's president for a third term. On October 21, Djamil Gasanli filed an appeal to the Supreme Court.
Today, the Supreme Court has formally considered the complaint filed by Djamil Gasanli and did not grant it. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Khafiz Gasanov, the leader of the NGO "Law and Development", representing Djamil Gasanli in court.
"We have submitted to the court more than 3100 acts of violations committed at more than 2400 electoral precincts, video and photo evidences of massive ballot box stuffing... However, the Supreme Court has refused to consider the evidences on the merits. This is a big setback compared to the previous election," Khafiz Gasanov has said.
Meanwhile, Djamil Gasanli still has a chance to file a complaint to the UN Committee on Human Rights to give political assessment of the violations committed during the election.
In turn, official from the CEC has stated that the highest court affirming the results of the election is the Constitutional Court. Meanwhile, the court has already given a final legal assessment of the election, the official has said.
