Russia's SC dismisses complaint of defenders of Akhshtyr Quarry in Sochi
The Russia's Supreme Court (SC) has ruled to dismiss the application lodged by the Sochi lawyer Roman Shikarev asking to cancel the decision of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak to use the Akhshtyr Quarry as a landfill for construction wastes.
Let us remind you that the use of the Akhshtyr Quarry as a dump for construction wastes from Olympic facilities was considered on July 12 at a sitting chaired by Dmitry Kozak. Violations at waste disposal in the quarry were registered by the "Rosprirodnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Nature Supervision); however, its use as a dump continues.
Roman Shikarev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he had challenged the above decision to use the Akhshtyr Quarry as a landfill at the Supreme Court on behalf of the movement "Law and Order". However, on August 2, a judge of the SC dismissed the complaint. The lawyer has added that now the movement plans to challenge the SC's decision at the Presidium of the SC.
It should be noted here that on August 7, the Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak assured that no hazardous construction and demolition wastes are placed in the territory of Sochi. Concerning the Akhshtyr Quarry, Mr Kozak said that only the building ground is disposed there; and prior to start the work, a number of activities had been performed there, which have a positive conclusion of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation.
However, experts had earlier emphasized the danger of placing construction wastes into the quarry.
