Participants of "Gaidar Readings" believe social problems in Northern Caucasus radicalize young people
Social problems such as lawlessness, corruption, and unemployment cause radicalization of young people in Northern Caucasus. This was stated by participants of the roundtable "Youth and Youth Policy". The roundtable was held within the "Gaidar Readings" of October 19-20. The Russian government has given problems of young people at the mercy of the regional authorities that sometimes act wrong. This was stated by Abakar Abakarov, a member of the Supreme Council of the Russian Congress of Peoples of Caucasus.
The readings on the topic "Civil Society in Northern Caucasus" were held in Moscow at "Holiday Inn" Hotel.
Valery Khatazhukov, the leader of Kabardino-Balkarian public human rights centre, has called the armed conflict ongoing in Northern Caucasus a "civil war". He believes that the republic has a growing-up generation whose fathers, being representatives of the warring parties, were killed in the course of the armed conflict.
In Dagestan, the main problem is the radicalization of young people and their leaving for "forest". This was emphasized by Abakar Abakarov, Candidate of Economic Sciences, and a member of the Supreme Council of the Russian Congress of Peoples of Caucasus. Meanwhile, "for about 10 years, no one ever addressed the problem."
A large number of young people, who have fallen under the influence of members of illegal armed formations (IAFs), want to return to civilian life. This was noted by Khabib Magomedov, the deputy head of the division to ensure the activities of the Anti-Terrorism Committee of Dagestan.
Abakar Abakarov has added that the republic also face less acute problems of youth policy that nevertheless also need to be solved. First of all, the expert has noted the problems in the field of education and providing youth employment.
