On October 14-20, 2013, 12 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
In the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, during the week from October 14 to October 20, 2013, at least 12 people were affected, including eight people who died and four others who were wounded. These are the results of the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on the own materials of the edition and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes four law enforcers – two in Dagestan, one in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), and one in Ingushetia, as well as four suspected members of the armed underground – three in the KBR and one in Dagestan.
Attacks on law enforcers
On October 15, an explosion occurred in an abandoned house in the outskirt of the village of Kuma, the Lak District of Dagestan. According to a local resident, one person was killed. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan, nobody was hurt by the explosion. Alerted policemen cordoned off the house. When screening the forest belt in the outskirt of the village, a shooting burst out; one policeman was wounded and later died.
On October 17, an armed skirmish burst out in Khasavyurt. A police patrol unit tried to check documents of the driver of a car they stopped. In response, the driver opened pistol fire, wounding a policeman and an occasional passerby. The driver of the car was killed in a shootout. Later, the wounded policeman died in hospital.
Special and counterterrorist operations
On October 16, under decision of the Ingush Operative Stuff, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the villages of Yandare and Ekazhevo of the Nazran District, as well as in a part of the city of Magas. Four persons were detained on suspicion of preparing terror acts scheduled for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayram). As a result of the operation, three improvised explosive device (IEDs) with a total weight of 45 kg were found.
Explosions and terror acts
On October 16, near the village of Alkhasty, Sunzha District of Ingushetia, during operational and search activities, a land mine (fougasse) was blown up. As a result, a serviceman of the troops of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) was killed; two other soldiers were wounded.
On October 18, in the yard of the rural mosque, located at the intersection of Gagarin and Kokov Streets in the village of Dugulubgey, Baksan District of the KBR, an explosion of some unknown explosive device was triggered. Remains of two men were later found in the venue of the explosion. Law enforcers suppose that the casualties had planned a terror act on the route of the funeral procession.
