Grozny mosques to be equipped with video cameras
The authorities of the Chechen capital are going to install CCTV cameras in all the city mosques. The measure, according to the Grozny Mayoralty, is aimed at preventing extremism and ensuring security.
The decision to install surveillance cameras in the city mosques was made on October 25 by the sitting of the antiterrorist commission of the Mayoralty. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Mayoralty that "the decision is aimed to control the believers who stick to extremist and radical viewpoints."
A source from the Mayoralty said that the above sitting discussed the so-called "unreliable believers": "The authorities are afraid that from time to time people in the mosques are discussing various topics, like the war in Syria; and many believers express viewpoints that differ from the official ones, that is, treating what is happening in Syria as jihad."
The official has added that "with the presence of CCTV cameras, nobody will dare to promote Salafism, express discontent and so on." "The measure is considered to help reducing potential threats," said the source.
