Said Amirov charged with plotting terror act

Said Amirov, Mayor of Makhachkala, who was dismissed from office, and his nephew Yusup Djaparov, who occupied the position of the Deputy Mayor of the city of Kaspiisk, are charged with terrorism and arms trafficking. Similar charges were brought against Magomed Abdulgalimov, the former assistant of the Khasavyurt Prosecutor.

According to the newspaper "Kommersant", investigators began suspecting Said Amirov, his nephew and the former assistant of the Khasavyurt Prosecutor of terrorist activities after Magomed Abdulgalimov voluntarily handed over to the investigators a portable antiaircraft missile system (PAMS) "Strela-2", which was stored in a hide in the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan. The investigators believe that the weapon was purchased to plot an assassination of Sagid Murtazaliev, an MP of the People's Assembly of Dagestan and Director of the Pension Fund of Dagestan, who at that time was considered to be a political rival of Said Amirov. Investigators believe that the suspects intended to shoot down the plane with Sagid Murtazaliev from the purchased PAMS and to blame militants of the crime, the "OTV" reports.

Advocates of Said Amirov and Yusup Djaparov have challenged at court the initiation of the criminal proceedings under articles on terrorism and arms trafficking.
