"Green Alliance" claims seven of its activists detained in Rostov-on-Don
Five activists of the "Green Alliance" Party, who intended to hold today a protest action in Rostov-on-Don, were brought to the police department for preventive conversations. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). According to the "Green Alliance" Party, seven activists were detained.
Today, the "Green Alliance" Party has planned to hold the action to protest against production of shale gas in Ukraine. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Yaroslav Volpin, Press-Secretary of the "Green Alliance" Party. The Party planned to hold a series of pickets in front of the "Don-Plaza" Hotel which hosted the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Ukraine.
"We planned to hold a peaceful ecological action in full compliance with the laws of Russia. However, even for half an hour prior to the start of the action, when the party activists just started to gather in the park nearby, they were surrounded by men in civilian clothes, who detained the activists, seized all property of the party and brought them to the Kirov OVD (Interior Division)," Yaroslav Volpin states.
According to him, when the party activists asked the policemen what was going on, the policemen answered that, in connection with the terror act committed in Volgograd, they are deployed in emergency mode and that they detained the party activists in the framework of measures to prevent the terrorist threat.
Yaroslav Volpin has noted that the legal service of the "Green Alliance" Party is preparing a complaint against law enforcers' actions.
