Nana Kvachadze: 2000 residents of Adzharia excluded from voters' list
During the presidential election in Georgia, it was reported that in Adzharia, about 2000 voters were deprived of their right to vote on the voting day. This was reported by Nana Kvachadze, a journalist of the newspaper "Batumelebi".
On the voting day, observers from NGOs started to report that local residents were not listed in the electoral rolls. It was revealed when people came to the electoral precincts, Nana Kvachadze reports.
"Officials from the district election commission in Batumi told us that, two days prior to the election, the Ministry of Justice withdrew the people from the electoral rolls. The people were no longer registered at their houses on the list for demolition. And it so happened that the inhabitants of those houses have not yet moved to other houses, and they actually stayed in the air, that is, without registration," Nana Kvachadze has explained.
Aage Borchgrevink, an independent observer from the Norwegian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, believes that the incident can hardly be explained by someone's malice.
"I would not give this case a political colouring. I think if people were informed in due time, this situation would not have happened," Aage Borchgrevink told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
