In Rostov-on-Don, Orthodox believers protest against Halloween
In Rostov-on-Don, activists of the parish youth centre at the Church of the Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God "Healer" hold an action calling to renounce celebrating Halloween. The activists distribute leaflets about the pagan roots of the holiday.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Irina Salmina, one of the participants of the protest action, the Orthodox Church activists hand out to residents the leaflets with the article of Bishop Alexander (Mileant). "Our educational campaign is aimed to show that, in fact, it is not a harmless holiday and to tell people, especially young people, of its pagan origins," Irina Salmina has said.
However, not all young residents of Rostov-on-Don associate Halloween with religious beliefs.
"For several years, I and my friends have a party in honour of Halloween. I consider myself an Orthodox believer, and I do not think that this is somehow affects my faith," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Alexandra Shirokova, a resident of Rostov-on-Don.
Let us remind you that in 2012, the Ministry of Education of the Krasnodar Territory sent a letter to managers of the municipal education departments and directors of educational institutions, prescribing to prevent "celebrating Halloween in any way or form."
