Abkhazia puts Yusup Lakaev on international wanted list

Yusup Lakaev, a native of Chechnya and a suspect of killing the first secretary of the Russia's Embassy to Abkhazia Dmitry Vishernev and his wife Olga Visherneva, has been put on the international wanted list, reports the investigating department of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Abkhazia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Yusup Lakaev was detained on September 13 in Batumi on suspicion of murdering the Russian diplomat. According to the above GPO, the molecular-genetic examination later confirmed his involvement in the murder of Vishernev.

The GPO of Abkhazia believes that the killing of the diplomat and his wife was made "on the basis of his hostile attitude to the state power of the Russian Federation and with the aim to undermine the Russian-Abkhazian diplomatic relations."

Earlier it was reported that Yusup Lakaev, who is now in Batumi, has recovered from his wound received in the fire-fight on September 13 and intends to ask for political asylum in Georgia. Russia plans to ask the Georgia to give Lakaev out. Apart of the fact that Lakaev is suspected of killing the Russian diplomat, he is also on the list of persons posing a threat to the Sochi Olympics.
