In Cherkessk, relatives of Khasan Khubiev hold two protest actions demanding to stop beating detainee
About 20 persons took part in a picket near the Division of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Cherkessk, demanding to let them entering an IVS (temporary detention facility). They have explained their actions by the fact that their detained relative Khasan Khubiev was subjected to beatings.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 21, Khasan Khubiev was detained on charges with arms trafficking. Law enforcers torture the detainee with electric current to force him to incriminate himself. This was stated on October 27 by Anzhela Urusova, an advocate of the 11th branch of the Advocates' Chamber of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR).
The protest action of October 31 was attended mostly by women. At about 11:00 a.m., while trying to get into the territory of the Russian MIA's Division for Cherkessk, they were stopped by policemen.
Two days earlier, on October 29, relatives of Khasan Khubiev also held a protest action.
"We went to the MIA's IVS to demand to stop torture. In the evening of October 28, he was tortured repeatedly with electric current. He was brought out of the IVS, and he spent about three hours at the CCE (Centre to Combat Extremism) of the republic," Maria Dzukaeva has stated.
The detainee's sister has reported that their demand to meet the Minister of Internal Affairs faced no response. "The chief of the IVS came out to us. He talked to us politely and said that they did not torture the detainee at the IVS and that the detainee was brought out of the IVS and brought to it already in this state," the woman has said.
