In Chechnya, operation "Poppy 2013" identifies 168 drug-related crimes
The large-scale anti-drug operation "Poppy 2013", held starting from this May, is completed in the Chechen Republic. During the operation, 168 crimes in the area of drug trafficking have been revealed in the territory of the republic.
When compared to the same period of the last year, then the number of drug-related crimes, revealed during the operation, has grown; however, at the same time, the amount of drugs seized has decreased," state officials from the law enforcement agencies of Chechnya.
For the period from this May till October, the Chechen narcotics police have identified 168 crimes in the area of drug trafficking, while during the same time period of 2012, 109 of such crimes were recorded.
According to the Ministry of Health of Chechnya, about 2500 drug addicts are registered at the national drug treatment clinic. "We should keep in mind that the actual number of drug users is much higher, since only a very small percentage of drug addicts have been registered at the special institutions," an official from the Ministry of Health has emphasized.
He has noted that the number of drug addicts in the republic has increased significantly over the recent 20 years.
