Noskovets: statements about solution of Sochi environmental issues are not true
According to the participants of the 10th World Conference on Sports and Environment, held in Sochi, the preparation for the Olympics-2014 is in compliance with all environmental standards. However, Olga Noskovets, an activist of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus", asserts that these statements are not true.
The above conference began in Sochi on October 30 with participation of over 400 representatives and partners of the Olympic movement, international business community and experts from around the world. The event was opened by Thomas Bach, the newly elected President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The most important achievement in respect of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games are the "green standards" of the construction process, which have been developed in Russia for the first time, said Thomas Bach.
Olga Noskovets, an activist of the NGO "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus", believes that the statements, made by the participants of the 10th World Conference on Sports and Environment, in many aspects have nothing to do with the real situation.
"Maybe, Olympic standards are enforced in the Olympic Park; and everything looks fine there. But in general, the city has pretty many unsolved problems... They've turned the Akhshtyr Quarry into a garbage dump," Olga Noskovets told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Speaking about 'green standards' is ridiculous. The city is completely destroyed as a resort," she has added.
According to her story, activists of the "Ecological Watch" tried to apply for participation in the conference, but they were denied accreditation.
