Sergey Zhuravlyov: one of most challenging issues in new school complex on Russian history connected with terrorism in Northern Caucasus
Russian historians have completed the work on the concept of a new training and methodical complex on the country's history. One of the most challenging scenes in it is associated with modern Russia, with the Chechen problem and with terrorism in Northern Caucasus. This was stated by Sergey Zhuravlyov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Russian History, the leader of the Centre for Russia's Recent History and Political Science at the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
On October 31, the final version of the historical and cultural standard, which should form the basis for writing of history textbooks, was presented to President Vladimir Putin and published on the website of the Russian Historical Society (RHS) and other Internet resources.
The basis of the writing team that prepared the project of historical and cultural standard was made up of staff members of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences; however, in total, the work on the concept involved more than 1000 persons.
According to Sergey Zhuravlyov, the writing team did not involve persons who are specially engaged in the Caucasus or the other regional issues.
Sergey Zhuravlyov has emphasized that one of the most challenging issues was connected with modern Russia, with the Chechen problem, terrorism in Northern Caucasus and the threat of spread of the most radical form of Islamic fundamentalism. In general, the standard interprets the problems of the period in terms of the international community's fight against terrorism.
