Natives of North-Caucasian republics claim being discriminated when renting housing in Moscow
Natives of the North-Caucasian republics complain that they are subjected to discrimination, when renting housing in Moscow. An agent of one of the leading real estate agencies in Moscow explains that agents only follow the wishes of the owners of housing let to rent out.
Magomed Aminov, a native of Dagestan, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he came to Moscow in search of work about a month ago; however, the first problem he had to face was to rent housing. He believes that the migration activity of Dagestan can be mainly explained as a consequence of unresolved problems in the region, such as high unemployment rate, corruption, and lack of social prospects for the population.
Residents of Moscow questioned by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent expressed different opinions on the issue. Some of them have explained their unwillingness to let their apartments to natives of Northern Caucasus by the fact that "Caucasians are trying to establish their own standards and rules of life and moral." Others have claimed that the origin of their tenant is not important for them.
According to Musa Pliev, an advocate from the advocates' office "Musaev and Partners", the ads with indication of ineligible nationality or race of tenants violate Article 136 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of equality of rights and freedoms of persons and citizen).
Let us remind you that earlier the problems of implementation of the migration policy conducted by the authorities were mentioned by participants of the conference "Why do migrants become trump card of election campaign in Moscow, and how to fight now the heightened ethnic tension in society?", held in Moscow on September 11.
