Court leaves Said Amirov in custody till February 28
The Basmanny Court of Moscow has extended the arrest of Said Amirov, Mayor of Makhachkala, who was dismissed from office. According to the Judge's decision, Said Amirov will stay in custody till February 28, 2014.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 1, Said Amirov was detained on suspicion of involvement in the attempt on the life of Arsen Gadjibekov, a Dagestani investigator. In early September, investigators have opened proceedings in the case of plotting a terror act.
The Said Amirov's advocates asked the court to pronounce the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of bail or home arrest, with the possibility to visit doctors. "The Court is to determine whether Said Amirov suffers from serious diseases that prevent the detention in custody," the "Interfax" quotes the defence as stating.
Earlier, the period of the investigation into the Said Amirov's case has been extended for three months in connection with the investigators' motion. The investigator has stated that while at liberty, Said Amirov may be involved in criminal activity.
Meanwhile, according to the advocate, the health state of Said Amirov will not allow him to escape. Said Amir has also stressed that he does not intend to interfere with the investigation.
