United Nations adopt resolution on truce during Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi
The UN General Assembly has approved the resolution calling on the states to respect the "Olympic Truce" during the 2014 Sochi Winter Games. The period of the truce is to begin seven days prior to the Olympics and to be completed within a week after the 11th Paralympic Winter Games.
The resolution on the truce was announced from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly by Dmitry Chernyshenko, the head of the organizing committee "Sochi-2014". According to him, in the Olympic Villages in Sochi, "walls of truce" will be placed, in which athletes will leave their wishes for maintaining peace on the planet.
We should add that the UN General Assembly adopts the resolution on truce every two years in anticipation of the next Olympic Games. The current resolution, like other resolutions of the UN General Assembly, is not binding for the states and only sends a signal to enhance mutual understanding between peoples.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July, Dokku Umarov, the leader of the "Imarat Kavkaz", announced the need to disrupt the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games and cancelled the moratorium on committing terror acts in the territory of Russia. Western experts also connected the explosion that occurred in the bus in Volgograd on October 21 with the threat of terrorism against the Sochi Olympic Games.
