Azerbaijan, court dismissed Gashimli's complaint against investigators
On November 7, the Sabail District Court of Baku considered the complaint lodged by Parviz Gashimli, a journalist and human rights defender, who asked to recognize the searches of his workplaces and seizure of his property and documents as illegitimate. The court dismissed the complaint.
Let us remind you that Parviz Gashimli, an employee of the independent newspaper "Bizim Yol" (Our Way) and director of the website moderator.az, was detained on September 27. He was charged under the articles of "contraband" and "illegal arms circulation" of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, which assume up to 12 years in prison. On September 18, the court put him in custody for two months. Gashimli treats the charges as politically motivated.
The journalist's complaint had to do with the fact that on September 17, agents of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) searched, without the court sanction, the offices of the "Bizim Yol" and the moderator.az, as Elchin Sadygov, the Gashimli's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. He added that the court decision will be appealed against.
On November 7, Gashimli was brought to the court and taken away by persons dressed in civilian clothes and in black masks. When leaving the courtroom he could address his relatives asking not to worry about him and saying that his arrest was illegal. He could not say anything more, as he was taken away by the convoy.
