Defence of students convicted of espionage files complaint to SC of Nagorno-Karabakh
The advocates of the students Rafik Avagyan and David Barsegyan, sentenced in Nagorno-Karabakh on July 23 to 10 and 11 years in prison, accordingly, for treason and espionage, have sent a complaint to the Supreme Court (SC) of the republic.
Let us remind you that Avagyan and Barsegyan were detained in March 2013. According to the prosecution, they delivered data of state importance to Samvel Azatyan, an agent of foreign special services, who lives in Istanbul.
The SC should consider the complaint within two weeks, that is, until November 22, Eric Beglaryan, Avagyan's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Let us remind you that that at the trial the defendants said that they had believed that they helped the above native of Armenia to implement a number of charitable programs in Nagorno-Karabakh.
On November 6, Sergey Avagyan, Rafik's father, had a meeting with his son in prison. Rafik feels well, hopefully waiting for the SC's decision, said his father.
"Should the Supreme Court fail to pass a fair judgment and acquit my son, we reserve the right to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights," Gohar Mnatsakanyan, David Barsegyan's mother, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
