On November 4-10, 2013, 20 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
During the week of November 4-10, 2013, at least 20 persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 13 persons were killed, and 7 persons were wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes three law enforcers in Dagestan, four civilians: three in Dagestan and one in Kabardino-Balkaria, and six suspected members of the armed underground, including two in the Stavropol Territory, and four in Dagestan.
Attacks on law enforcers
On November 4, in a wooded area near the village of Shaitli in the Tsuntin District of Dagestan, special force fighters clashed with a grouping of suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs). As a result, a special force fighter was killed, and another one was wounded. The accurate data on the losses of IAF members were not reported.
In the morning on November 6, in the village of Zubutli-Miatli of the Kizilyurt District of Dagestan, three unidentified persons shelled a car of Mikail Magomedov, Senior District Police Inspector. The policeman died from the wounds.
On November 6, near the house No. 10 located in Shamil Avenue in Makhachkala, unidentified persons shelled Police Major Girametdin Gamidov, Senior District Police Inspector. The policeman died from the gunshot wounds.
On November 7, at the 827th km of the federal highway "Kavkaz", in the territory of the Karabudakhkent District, policemen of the road-and-patrol service stopped a Mercedes E-320 car for exceeding the speed limit, and persons from the car opened fire on the policemen. As a result of the fire fight, one policeman and a female resident of Makhachkala, a passenger from the car passing by, were hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
At night of November 8, in the garden community "Rus" located in the Predgorny District of the StavropolTerritory, two kilometres from Pyatigorsk, policemen noticed a Lada car that drove to one of the unfinished buildings and asked the persons who came out of it to stop and raise their hands. However, the persons opened fire on the policemen. One of the gunmen was killed in the place by the return fire, the other was fatally wounded. No policemen suffered. Investigators seized weapons and ammunition from the place and found an explosive device in the boot of the car.
On November 9, at the bus station in Makhachkala, three unidentified persons asked a man who worked as a private taxi driver to take them to Khasavyurt. Later, by threatening by weapon, they tied up the driver with Scotch tape, moved him to the back seat and drove to the Kumtorkala District of Dagestan. At 7:20 p.m., persons of that car shelled a guard post of the regional branch of the private security agency of the Russian Ministry of Transportation on the bridge over the ShuraozenRiver. One of the guards was wounded, and he was taken to a hospital in Makhachkala.
Special operations and CTOs
On November 3, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the Lak District of Dagestan. On November 4, a grouping of suspected militants was discovered in the gorge between the villages of Kuma and Kundy. At about noon, an armed clash occurred, during which three militants were killed.
On November 10, the CTO regime was introduced in the Tabasaran District. During carrying out the operational and search activities, federal forces fighters attempted to stop a VAZ-2109 car. Persons from the case opened fire on power agents. One of the passengers from the car was killed in a fire fight.
Explosions and terror acts
On November 8, at the twenty-four-hour store "24 Hours" located on the corner of Kotrov and Yaragsky Streets in the centre of Makhachkala, an explosive device detonated. As a result, one person was killed and another one was wounded. The power of the explosive device was 1.3 kg of TNT equivalent.
On November 9, near the milk plant in Makhachkala, unidentified persons attempted to blow up a police UAZ van. There were three policemen in the van; and one of them got a minor concussion.
Attacks on civilians
On November 4, in Kalinin Street in Makhachkala, Zainudin Madanov, a Federal Judge of the Lenin District of Makhachkala, was killed by unidentified persons. The attackers shelled his car and fled. The judge died in the place from the wounds.
On November 8, near the house in Salman Street in Derbent, four armed men in masks and camouflage stopped the car of a director of a food warehouse, moved him to the back seat and escaped in the car. The body of the director was found on November 9.
On November 7, in a field near the village of Islamei in the Baksan District of the republic, a burned down Lada Priora car without state registration plates was discovered with the body of an unidentified man inside it. According to investigators' information, criminal first shot and killed the man and then set fire to the car from the inside.
