Ingushetia passes on bust of Sulambek Oskanov, first Hero of Russia, to Central Museum of Great Patriotic War in Moscow
On December 6, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the head of Ingushetia, passed on the bust of Sulambek Oskanov, Major General of Aviation, the first Hero of the Russian Federation, for eternal keeping to the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War (World War II) on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow. In 1992, Sulambek Oskanov gave his lives to prevent an aircraft crash on a village in the Lipetsk Region.
Yunus-Bek Evkurov has noted that 21 years ago, Sulambek Oskanov, a native of Ingushetia, accomplished the feat for the sake of people's lives.
"Sulambek is not only the pride of our teip (clan) of Oskanov family. All Ingush people, all Russia and all its inhabitants, irrespective of nationality, are rightly proud of him. After all, he is a hero, who sacrificed himself and thought about the people, and covenants of our ancestors tell us to act like that," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Magomed Oskanov, an elder of the Oskanov teip.
"The fact that today, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the current Ingush leader, who is also a Hero of Russia and a military officer, is doing everything to perpetuate memory of Sulambek is a good example of the true patriots and sons of the Ingush people for the younger generation," noted Yusup Oskanov, another member of the Oskanov teip.
Let us remind you that in 2012, a monument to General Sulambek Oskanov was opened in the republic to the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Ingushetia.
