State Duma commission warns Zhirinovsky for his statements about Northern Caucasus
The Russian Parliamentary Ethics Commission has condemned the statements of Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the head of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), about Northern Caucasus in the "Poedinok" (Duel) TV programme. The commission has issued a warning against the use of such rhetoric methods by an MP.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Zhirinovsky had suggested separating Northern Caucasus from Russia and restricting the birth rate there. On October 27, the members of the Chechen regional branch of the LDPR treated the offers as unacceptable; and soon after the Chechen branch of the party stopped its activities. The deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Chechen Republic demanded to give a due assessment of Zhirinovsky's words.
The sitting of the commission on ethics has decided to inform Zhirinovsky about the inadmissibility of misuse democratic principles of parliamentary rhetoric for making his position public, the "Interfax" reports, referring to Alexander Degtyarev, the chair of the commission.
Apart from the above warning about his incorrect behaviour, no other disciplinary measures were applied to the LDPR boss, adds the ITAR-TASS.
