Three of detained protesters released in Dagestan

Three persons detained on December 11 in the village of Samur, Magaramkent District of Dagestan, during an unsanctioned protest against construction of water intake station on the river have been released; others are still at the district police station, local residents report.

"Also, we've learned that three activists and action initiators were put into separate cells. I can't tell any details about whether any investigative measures have been applied to them and about the conditions in which they are kept," one of Samur villagers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on December 11.

Let us remind you that that on that day an unauthorized protest rally against the construction of a water intake station on the Samur River was held in the village. After a scuffle with the police 19 protesters were taken to the local police station.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the victims of the conflict with the police received a head and shoulder injury; the other two had severe bruises. The protesters claimed that policemen behaved aggressively, and that policemen had provoked the conflict.
