Grozny officials ask city library to move out
Officials of the Department of Culture of the city of Grozny have asked to vacate the building of the Central City Library (CCL) as soon as possible, the librarians assert.
The CCL of Grozny is currently located on the ground floor of an apartment building, which is located near the very centre of the Chechen capital in Putin Avenue (formerly Victory Avenue).
According to local observers, the library's problems may have to do with the fact that some businessman was attracted by the convenient location of the building.
"Buildings in the downtown area, especially their ground floors are attracting entrepreneurs. It is possible that someone's commercial interest is behind this decision," says Khamzat, an activist of a local NGO.
The demand to vacate the premises are unlawful, says Satsita Israilova, the head of the library.
"I 'm not going to leave, until they drive a truck here and start throwing all our things there. Then, I'll go to the police and write an official statement that I take off all the blame as the head, put down the keys and go. There'll be no other way to leave the premises," Satsita Israilova said on December 11 on air of Radio Russia.
