Dagestani resident is fined for involvement in "Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami"

A magistrate of the Nizhny Novgorod District of Moscow sentenced a resident of Dagestan to a fine of 60,000 roubles for involvement in the banned terrorist organization "Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami". This was reported by the Moscow Prosecutor's Office.

The Dagestani resident, who was sentenced by the Nizhny Novgorod District Court of Moscow, was among 70 persons detained in November 2012 by the Moscow FSB Department.

Investigators argue that 34-year-old Magamed Magamedov was a member of the "Islamic Party of Liberation" ("Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami") and that, starting from February 2010 till November 2012, he regularly participated in its meetings. The investigators are confident that Magamed Magamedov was aware of the fact that in February 2003, the organization was declared a terrorist unit and it was banned in the territory of the Russian Federation.

Let us remind you that on November 28, the same Court pronounced a similar verdict for involvement in the "Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami" to two other residents of Dagestan. The Judge has obliged each of them to pay a fine of 50,000 roubles.

Svetlana Gannushkina, a member of the board of the international "Memorial" organization and Chair of the Committee "Civil Assistance" that implements humanitarian and educational projects in Northern Caucasus, believes that there were no grounds to recognize the "Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami" a terrorist organization. "There is not even a single record about any terror act committed by the organization. In some European countries, it exists legally," Svetlana Gannushkina has stressed.
