Arkady Lander, editor-in-chief of newspaper "Mestnaya", dies In Sochi
At night on December 16, in Sochi, after a long illness and after being beaten in April 2010, the 65-year-old journalist Arkady Lander died. This was reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Let us remind you that on April 26, 2010, Arkady Lander was beaten by unidentified persons. The journalist associated the attack on him with his professional activities.
During that attack the journalist was hit on his head with a crowbar. Doctors diagnosed Arkady Lander with a skull fracture, brain concussion and lacerated wounds on the head, which bared his skull. The journalist was in grave condition and was operated on several times during these three years. In November 2013, his leg was amputated.
During the last month, Arkady Lander was substituted, because of his illness, by Oleg Rubezhansky, the director general and the owner of the newspaper "Mestnaya" (Local). He associates the death of his colleague with the attack on him in April 2010.
On June 11 this year, Arkady Lander reported that the investigation into the attack on him was closed because of time limitation. At the same time, Oleg Rubezhansky reported that the office of the newspaper was searched with confiscation of the PCs used in making the layout. He was to sign a recognizance not to leave in connection with the investigation into the criminal case of copyright infringement. He associated those events with the newspaper's criticism with regard to the authorities.
