In Armenia, opponents of new pension system gather more than 1000 protestors in Yerevan streets
On Tuesday, in the centre of Yerevan, one more protest action against the new funded pension system was held. The event was organized by opposition parties, such as the "Heritage", the "Prosperous Armenia", the Armenian National Congress (ANC), and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) "Dashnaktsutyun". The protest action was attended by more than 1500 persons.
Let us remind you that on December 13, the Armenian Parliament rejected by majority vote the proposal of the opposition factions "Prosperous Armenia", the ANC, the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" and the "Heritage" to postpone for a year the introduction of the law on mandatory funded pension system. The discussions of the mandatory funded pension system were accompanied by protest actions.
Artsvik Minasyan, an MP from the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun", has noted that, in particular, the statement issued after the protest action includes a demand to suspend the law at least from January 1 and to ensure public participation in the trial.
It should be noted that on December 13, during the meeting on the new funded pension system held at the Ministry of Economy, Armenia President Serzh Sargsyan noted that "the opinions on pension reforms could be divided into political and professional ones." "I appreciate the new reforms, and I would advise those who are of the same opinion to show their activity to avoid in the future such a bad situation that exists in our country in relation to social security," Serzh Sargsyan has emphasized.
