In Nagorno-Karabakh, residents of Djivani village claim absence of infrastructure and low living standards
Local residents believe that the village of Djivani of the Martuni District of Nagorno-Karabakh is isolated because of absence of transport communications, the Internet, and TV channels. The village administration promises to solve infrastructure problems in the nearest future.
The village of Djivani was founded in 1999 for Armenian families from Georgia from Akhalkalaki and Akhaltsikhe. The village is a home for about 200 persons, or 38 families, including 11 families from Georgia, a family of refugees from Azerbaijan, and families of professionals, who moved to the village to work there. All families, who have moved to the village of Djivani, are provided with housing.
Local residents believe that the geographical location of the village and climate create favourable conditions for the cultivation of horticultural and garden plants and for the livestock development. However, at the same time, they claim that they bring their products to the market because of poor roads and absence of transport communications to the capital and the nearby dwelling settlements.
According to Manvel Avakyan, the former head of the village administration, the issue about road repair has been repeatedly raised before the authorities, and that it has been twice repaired for the funds from the budget.
Arsen Khachatryan, the chairman of the village, has added that recently, the administration of the Martuni District discussed the problems of the village of Djivani and promised to help solve them.
