At trial of "Nida" activists in Baku defendant said that he gave no testimony to investigators

At the trial conducted by the Baku Court of Grave Crimes of seven activists of the movement "Nida" and of Ilkin Rustamzade, a member of the organization "Free Youth", the defendant Mamed Azizov said that during the investigation, he was forced to sign a testimony that he did not give, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that initially the "Nida" activists had been accused of possession of narcotic drugs and explosives. On September 12, all of them, as well as Rustamzade, were additionally charged with organizing mass riots. The young people refused to testify at this stage of investigation.

Investigators assert that Azizov had evidenced that at the meetings of "Nida" activists in late February-early March the defendant Rashad Gasanov stated the necessity to organize riots using "Molotov cocktails" and smoke bombs "in order to intimidate the police, activate the population, attract support of other oppositional forces and the believers, as well as in order to receive political and financial assistance from foreign embassies and international organizations."

However, at the session Azizov said that there was no interrogation; and he was forced to sign the already prepared protocols.

Let us note here that the international human rights organization Amnesty International had declared all the figurants in the case to be "prisoners of conscience".
