Ministry of Energy: Sochi commissions 40 out of 49 power facilities planned for Olympics
In Sochi, on the eve of the Olympic Games, 40 power facilities have been already put into operation, and most of the remaining 9 have been already energized. This was announced by Andrei Cherezov, Deputy Energy Minister of the Russian Federation, at the meeting of the Public Council for the preparation for the 2014 Olympic Games.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that during seven years of the Olympic construction, Sochi energy capacity has grown by a half, which will allow avoiding periodic outages. After the 2014 Olympic Games, the surplus energy will be distributed among the enterprises of the city.
According to Anatoly Pakhomov, Mayor of Sochi, modernization of the distribution grid in the city will continue after the Olympic Games.
In June, the Kudepsta thermal power plant (TPP) was excluded from the list of the Olympic power facilities. Residents of the village of Kudepsta believed that the construction of the TPP could destroy the resort area.
Besides, Sochi residents have also repeatedly complained about poor construction rate of power facilities, which resulted in frequent electricity outages.
